Friday, May 29
Hope Family Village, whose members have been working more than a decade to establish a unique mental health community, might have to go back to the drawing board if the controversial Cardinal Ridge project is turned down by the James City County board of supervisors next month.
Thursday, May 28
Williamsburg City Council approved a trimmed-down $116.5 million budget Wednesday, then capped its special meeting by appointing interim City Manager Michele Mixner DeWitt to the fulltime city manager’s role.
Wednesday, May 27
With the two Republican representatives dissenting, James City County’s Board of Supervisors approved a $413 million budget that lowers real estate tax rates, but adds a 5% admissions tax on Busch Gardens and movie tickets and increases the meals tax to 6%.
Tuesday, May 26
Brian Brewer, a marketing specialist, says he has felt welcome as a gay man since he moved to the Williamsburg area from New York. But he was “sad to see that there wasn’t really anything “ being organized by the local LGBTQ+ community. So he was thrilled to help organize the first Williamsburg Area Pride festival June 27.
