Sipping an alcoholic beverage while shopping downtown Williamsburg is coming to Merchants Square next Monday, July 20. Williamsburg announced a yearlong pilot program for what it calls a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area in a block of Merchants Square, along Duke of Gloucester Street between College Corner and Henry Street.
Thursday, July 16
Williamsburg’s historic First Baptist Church is on track to finish the restoration of its predecessor African Baptist Church in time for its 250th anniversary in October.
Wednesday, July 15
After six years and multiple iterations, James City County supervisors narrowly approved a new mixed-use development to add 139 homes in the new Westwood Park development next to New Town.
Tuesday, July 14
Williamsburg has kept paying its former city manager his $264,000 annual salary, consistent with a clause in his contract that provided for a settlement if the city demanded his departure and he agreed to resign.
Monday, July 13
The eviction of the senior citizen we wrote about earlier this month has been postponed while lawyers argue about the validity of the contract she signed to sell it for less than its appraised value.
