$26.1 Million Williamsburg Library Proposal Takes Second Step in City Council
Williamsburg City Council unanimously approved the second step in building a new downtown library, awarding a $1.1 million contract for design work that would set a maximum cost for the project.
Two days earlier, James City County approved a construction start for its new government complex, which includes a library annex 3.5 miles from the city library on Scotland Street.

$49.8 Million More Approved for James City County Government Center
James City County supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday night to begin construction on the new government center and library annex, approving up to $48 million in additional work.
The contract with Henderson/Gilbane will cover the cost of pre-ordering steel, concrete work, initial plumbing and HVAC and electrical work on the facility at 5231 Longhill Road. Separately, the supervisors approved hiring McDonough Bolyard Peck to manage construction for $1.8 million.
The final cost of the entire complex will not be known until next spring, County Administrator Scott Stevens said.

1,006-Home Development on Former Eastern State Land Recommended for Approval
James City County’s planning commission is recommending the board of supervisors approve a rezoning to allow 1,006 homes on former Eastern State Hospital land off Longhill Road.
The commission voted 4-2 Wednesday night to recommend the Cardinal Ridge project, despite concerns about the impact on traffic, especially with the government center going up across the street.
Chair Jack Haldeman and Jamestown Representative Frank Polster voted against the recommendation.
