We tour Williamsburg's new police station

Good morning! It's March 2. Today we'll take you on a tour of the city's state of the art police station. James City County sends Busch Gardens a $15.3 million refund -- and a $21 million tax bill.

By the middle of this month, Williamsburg’s finest will transition to a state-of-the-art new headquarters building offering high tech and convenience.

The $22 million, three-story building features the latest innovations in police stations, from a property room with automatically locking compartments designed to protect evidence chain of custody, to a gymnasium, all the way to lockers with USB ports for smartphones and special air handlers to banish the smell of sweaty boots.

Police Chief Sean Dunn gave Williamsburg Watch a tour of the new building last week, while workers were putting on the finishing touches.

The new station has a secure area where a magistrate can process detainees, and an underground entryway into the basement to allow secure transport of prisoners. The basement also has facilities where vehicles involved in a crime can be inspected outside of the weather, with storage for motorcycles and bikes.
