Williamsburg-James City County school board members unanimously approved a new redistricting plan that will impact about 16% of the division’s students next school year.
Board members said they understood the concerns of families whose children would be going to a new school next year, but “our young people are incredibly resilient and adaptive to change,” in the words of Williamsburg representative Amy Chen.
Superintendent Daniel Keever laid out the next steps to help families with the changes, saying school families will receive an email Wednesday with a link to a web page where they will be able to find their respective school assignments.
A second email and a letter will go out the second week of November showing the schools assigned to each family’s home address, he said. Staff will receive information in December about how they can apply for new school assignments, Keever said. Principals will send letters in December to all families giving dates for them to visit the new schools during the year.
