Provide details of how redistricting will work, WJCC school board member urges

Parents continued complaining they did not understand decisions leading to redistricting of Williamsburg-James City County public schools, leading one school board member to ask the administration for firm answers about how the project will roll out.
Jamestown school board member Ty Hodges noted many of the questions from parents who spoke at the school board meeting Tuesday were about how rising seniors would be handled at the time of transition in 2027, what staffing will look like at schools, and what resources would be available for those most affected.
“As a board member, I can’t answer those questions,” Hodges said. “I don’t think any board member up here can.”
Hodges asked Superintendent Daniel Keever to have a plan of action ready to go when the final redistricting maps are presented next month, to explain how the schools will support students, their families and staff.
“I believe getting answers to these pressing questions ...is paramount as we prepare to undertake something as monumental and logistically challenging as redistricting ,“ Hodges said.
