For the second time, local residents oppose renaming a local school. York School Board got the results Monday night, will decide next steps at their regular meeting Sept. 22.
The vote should have been FOR something, not just AGAINST something. I never saw the poll and don't much care either way, but I wonder how the question was asked.
Give people a choice between (1) Old Name and (2) Proposed New Name and you might get different answers than if you asked them to choose between (1) Doing Nothing and Keeping the Familiar Old Name, and (2) Spending $65K for an as-yet-to-be-determined New Name.
Most people would rather stick with what is familiar and save money, than buy a new name which they might not like any better. "Any name is better than this one!" seems like a weak argument, compared to "We would rather have the school named for X (whom we would like to honor), than have it named for Y (who is not so worthy)."
Well it is a confederate strong hold in the area. They wave their confederate flags on the back of trucks as they drive around Yorktown. Racism is a live and well.

Second time? I oppose also renaming the third poll.
