Morning fire destroys Kingspoint home
No injuries reported
A James City County was left homeless when fire destroyed their Kingspoint home early this morning.
Fire Chief Ryan Ashe said fire crews responded at 5:40 this morning to a house fire in the 100 block of Archer Hope Drive in the Kingspoint subdivision.
The occupants were awaked by the fire, left the house safely, and called 911.
Additional crews were called in because of the wind and cold temperatures and brought the fire under control by 6:30. The Williamsburg Fire Department joined in as well.
The house was declared a total loss, but no injuries were reported, Ashe said.
The Virginia Department of Health issued a reminder today that in the event of a power loss, you should rely on a fireplace that is up to code, portable space heaters or kerosene heaters that are rated for indoor use.
Heat sources should be kept at least three feet away from drapes, furniture or other flammable materials and kept properly ventilated to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
You can get a list of warming shelters in the area by calling 2-1-1.

Very sad to read about the family losing their home, but happy no one was injured!
Good safety tips!
