Local gas prices jump as Iran war impacts global oil market
It's March 10. Gas prices shot up in our area over the weekend as Iran war impacts oil prices. Also, the push to name a new Yorktown Navy ship in time for 250th anniversary of Yorktown surrender.


Drivers in the Historic Triangle are paying more at the pump this week as the conflict in the Middle East rages on.
According to AAA, the average price nationally for regular fuel jumped roughly 48 cents to $3.48. In Virginia, the average price of gas per gallon rose from $2.83 last week to $3.30, an increase of 47 cents.
On Monday along Monticello Avenue in James City County, drivers were paying $3.39 at three gas stations: at Mobile next to Publix, at the Exxon station across the street, and at the new Wawa convenience store further down the road.
“I can tell you one thing, it is way too high, way too high,” said one frustrated driver at the Exxon.
At Wawa, drivers had similar reactions to the prices.
“It’s gone up tremendously,” said Jazzy Butler of Poquoson, who was visiting a friend in Williamsburg. “It’s crazy. It’s been up and down the past few years. With the way the economy is right now, it’s been hard for me.”
