The proposed operating agreement for the Williamsburg Regional Library cements governing control with James City County – which already pays most of the cost – while giving York County a cap on its spending and positioning the library to serve a larger region.

Williamsburg, James City and York County’s governing bodies will vote on the proposed changes at their regular meetings this month.

The library’s name would also change to “Greater Williamsburg Regional Library”, reflecting a move to allow residents of other localities like New Kent or Charles City counties to use the facilities for a charge to be determined at a future date.
