Hundreds attend Charlie Kirk memorial at Williamsburg-JCC courthouse Sunday

Hundreds of people turned out at the Williamsburg-James City County courthouse Sunday evening to honor Charlie Kirk, the conservative religious activist who was shot dead while speaking to students at a college campus.
Trevor Topping, one of the organizers of the event, said 285 people had planned to attend as of Saturday, but the crowd appeared to be larger. The event was timed to coincide with Kirk’s memorial ceremony in Arizona.
Williamsburg Watch saw significant numbers of teenagers — boys and girls — several of whom told us they were Christians who followed Kirk for his religious convictions, rather than politics.
Kirk was a conservative Christian who became famous for debating students at university campuses across the country on everything from capitalism to diversity policies. His Turning Point USA organization was credited with turning out a large youth vote for President Donald Trump.
He was hosting just such a debate Sept. 10 at Utah Valley University when he was fatally shot by a gunman firing from a nearby rooftop.
Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the shooting, turned himself into police at the urging of his parents.
