Local governments can expect the legislature to push for more control over local zoning decisions, renew discussions about unionizing local employees, and look at controls on Flock cameras and ebikes next year, Williamsburg’s lobbyists told the city council Monday.
General Assembly members “are deciding they are going to inject themselves” into what were traditionally considered local decisions, Chris Nolen of McGuire Woods Consulting told the council’s work session Monday afternoon.
“Mandates that have been forced upon us from the state” are creating more work for city officials, Mayor Douglas G. Pons said. City council will host six public hearings at its regular meeting Thursday related to state zoning mandates.
