Early voting on redistricting amendment starts today

Early voting for Virginia’s April 21 statewide constitutional amendment referendum begins today, giving voters in the Historic Triangle six weeks to cast ballots before election day.
The amendment, supported by the Democratic majority in the General Assembly, would overturn Virginia’s current bipartisan method of drawing congressional boundaries to one where the majority would have that say.
Democrats released a proposed congressional map that would redraw districts in time for November’s midterm elections, changing from 6-5 Democratic/Republican leaning districts to 10-1 Democratic-leaning.
It splits off most of James City County and all of Williamsburg into a Democratic-leaning Congressional District 4 that stretches from the Richmond area south to part of Franklin city in the south and west to Danville.
