The developers of the planned Bluffs at Kiskiack project withdrew their rezoning application Friday, the second time in a month a large residential development has been pulled from consideration in James City County in the face of determined citizen opposition.
Developers of both the Bluffs project and the even larger Cardinal Ridge development apparently did not have enough votes on the county’s board of supervisors to have their rezoning requests approved, sources told Williamsburg Watch.
The two projects would have added more than 1,400 homes to the county, on top of 7,000 that have already been approved but not yet built.
The Bluffs project would have rezoned 276 acres near Croaker to build 704 homes, commercial and office space as well as an open-air museum featuring the heads from the defunct Presidents Park. Thirty percent of the homes would be priced to be affordable to people earning up to 80% of the county’s adjusted median income.
