Williamsburg City Council voted unanimously Thursday to approve a contract to build a new downtown library at a projected cost of $37.2 million, saying the project was a better solution to the growing pains of the decades-old facility on Scotland Street than renovation.
Council members voted to award the contract for the new 50,000-square-foot library to Hourigan Construction Corporation. Construction is slated to begin next April and finish in the summer of 2028.
